KASEY AWAKE

Keep your computer screen on

Reading a document, explaining something, or working with your hands? Kasey Awake is a free web app that asks your browser to keep the display on while this tab is visible.

Stopped

Time since start

00:00:00

Keep this tab visible. This tool cannot guarantee prevention of company locks or every type of sleep.

For tasks where you need the display to stay on

  • Read documents or instructions without moving the mouse.
  • Keep the screen displaying this page on during an explanation or presentation.
  • Keep your computer display on while doing hands-on work.

Covering this page with another app or web page may hide it and release the wake lock. This tool is not designed to run out of sight in the background.

Press Start and keep this tab visible

  1. Open a supported browser

Start with the latest version of Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.

  2. Press “Keep screen on”

“Wake lock active” means the browser accepted the request. Wait longer than your usual screen timeout to check whether it works on your computer.

  3. Keep this tab visible

Switching tabs or minimizing the window hides the page and releases the wake lock. After you start it, returning to this tab triggers a new request.

  4. Stop when you finish

Press Stop or close the tab. After reloading or reopening the page, press Start again.

The timer shows time since Start, including time when the tab was hidden. It is not the total time a wake lock was active.

Keeping a display on is different from preventing a lock

This app uses the Screen Wake Lock API, a standard browser feature for requesting that a display stay on. It does not generate mouse or keyboard input or change Windows settings.

Keeping a display on is different from preventing a lock
FeatureWhat to expect
Automatic screen dimming or timeoutRequests that the display stay on while this page is visible, on supported systems.
Computer sleepKeeping the display on may also prevent sleep in some cases. It is not guaranteed across all systems or power states.
Company inactivity locks and sign-in promptsCannot reliably prevent locks or password requirements enforced by device management.
Hidden tabs and minimized windowsCannot maintain the wake lock while hidden. Returning to the tab triggers a new request.
Manual sleep, closing the lid, or shutting downDoes not prevent these actions or wake a sleeping computer.
Downloads and background tasksDoes not guarantee that other applications or background processes will keep running.

Browser support and things to check first

You need a browser that supports the Screen Wake Lock API and an HTTPS connection. This page is served over HTTPS. Try the latest Edge or Chrome first. Safari, Firefox, and other browsers may also work depending on their version and OS. The page tells you if the feature is unavailable.

Low battery or power-saving mode may cause the request to be denied or released. Keeping your display on uses more power, so use the tool only while you need it.

Follow your organization’s rules on managed devices. A wake lock request may work even when display and sleep settings are grayed out. We have received one user report of success on a managed Windows computer with those settings disabled. This does not guarantee results on other devices or management policies.

If it will not start or the wake lock is released

“This browser does not support wake lock”
Open the page in the latest Edge or Chrome. Some in-app browsers may not support this feature.
“Could not keep the screen on”
Check that the tab is visible, check your battery and power-saving settings, then press Start to retry. Company browser policies may also restrict the feature.
“Wake lock released”
The browser or OS has released the request. Keep this tab visible and press Start again. If it keeps happening, check power-saving settings or device management policies.
The computer locks despite “Wake lock active”
A separate management policy may lock the computer even when the browser accepted the request. Note the time and the page’s status and contact your device administrator.

Where to check display, sleep, and lock settings in Windows

Display timeout and sleep
Windows 11: Settings → System → Power & battery (or Power) → screen and sleep settings. Windows 10: Settings → System → Power & sleep. Labels vary by Windows version.
Screen saver lock
Search Start for “Change screen saver”. Check the Wait time and “On resume, display logon screen”.
Sign-in after waking or being away
Open Settings → Accounts → Sign-in options and check the settings for requiring sign-in after being away or waking up.
Company inactivity lock
Win + R → secpol.msc → Local Policies → Security Options → “Interactive logon: Machine inactivity limit”. This may be unavailable depending on your Windows edition or permissions.

If settings are locked, contact your device administrator. Grayed-out controls alone do not identify why the display turns off or which lock policy is active.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free, with no account, software installation, or browser extension required.

Does it start just by opening the page?

No. Press “Keep screen on” to start. You also need to press Start after reloading or reopening the page.

Can I switch to another tab?

Hiding this page releases the wake lock. After you start it, returning triggers a new request, but it cannot stay active while the page is hidden.

Can it work when company PC settings are grayed out?

It may. Permission to edit power settings and permission to request a wake lock are separate. Start the tool and wait longer than your normal screen timeout to check your computer.

Does it work after my computer locks?

It cannot unlock the computer or enter your password. Sign in manually, check the page’s status, and press Start again if needed.

Can I use it on a phone or Mac?

It may work on a supported browser and OS. We have not tested every device. Check the support message and test its effect on your own device.

Does it send my input or activity history?

The tool has no feature that collects or sends input or activity history, and no account or file input. Cloudflare processes access information to serve the site. See the privacy policy for details.

What if it has no effect?

Try the troubleshooting steps above. If a company inactivity lock is responsible, ask your administrator about extending the timeout or an exception for your work.
